50 Greatest Chick Flicks of All Time

Women’s pictures used to be guilty pleasures: No more! Now they’re kicking butt, getting respect, and grossing huge. From frothy romances to whale-riding adventures, these films show us who we are, where we’ve been, what we can take, and better yet, what we can dish out. If you don’t find all your own favorites here, old and new, that’s for a happy reason: A truly inclusive list would be four times as long and growing fast…

8 out of 50 (16%!!) Oh dear God… I need to get copies of these flicks and reaffirm my womanhood!

Mom’s weekend over at Hardin

My mom spent the weekend (Friday morning - Sunday night) over at my place here in campus. It felt like being home. Wherever she went, she was tidying up. She cooked. She washed all the kitchen stuff like crazy. Leny, my roommate, must have felt weird coz Saturday night, she knocked on my door (while Ajay and my mom where around, doing stuff I can’t remember now) and said she was spending the night at her friend’s place.

I’m not embarrassed with my mom though… I loved having her here the past few days. I missed laughing with er and poking fun on stuff we both enjoy. I helped her a bit on her paper (she’s finishing up her M.A. at UST), which is mainly why she was over.

It’s my mom’s 51st birthday this Wednesday. A year after a turning a half-century old. Wow. And I’m going on a year after turning a quarter-century old. Time flies. Life is so short…

Lolo Jose.

My cousin ate Sonia phoned me today saying “Buy the Inquirer, your grandfather’s in the paper.”

(Read the article here.)

I never had a chance to know my father’s father. What am I saying, not even my father remembers him. All I knew was that he was Ilocano, married my father’s mother, had Ninang Josefina, Tito Willy &Tito Ando (twins), and my father, Jose Jr.(born 1947), left for the U.S. Army in 1947 and never came back. This article is messing up the dates…

It’s saying my grandfather met his 2nd wife, Mary Elizabeth Ham, much earlier than when he had kids with my grandmother, Socorro Valenciano. In the words of my cousin Sonia… our folks are being cast off like “anak sa labas”?

Headaches.

Am I stressed out?

Most that is happening to my body all seem to point to this. Some free time alllows me to answer self-diagnoses online, and even research about my over-all health. When I reasses how my days are like, how can I be stressed at all? I only teach until 10 am, I lounge in my office for a while to study a bit until 4, surf the net til around 5, and go home.

Might it be that my stress is coming from too much thinking?

Maybe…

1. I actually haven’t started checking my students’ exams, and it’s been two weeks since they took it. I had been worrying that I might not finish checking them at all before their next exam next week.
2. I keep thinking that I go too fast in teaching one of my classes, since there’s no one to compare notes with. No one else teaches that course now but me.
3. I think a lot about my doctor’s appointment next week.
4. Being wary about turning 26…
5. Plans about

I see now… writing them down now tells me I’m not just thinking… I’m worrying. Have you ever had that feeling of tension between your eyes as if a bright light is being shone on them? No bright light here, but my eyebrows can’t keep apart these past few days.

Surprisingly, it’s been two weeks since I’ve really given thought to the courses I’m taking. Oh God now I’m worrying about them too… I need to learn to meditate and free my mind from all these things!

My first ob-gyne visit.
