Valentine’s Day has come and passed yet again. Tradition remains, so we all know it’ll come again next year. What else is the gyst of all the fuss goin’ on? It’s so obvious, it sounds so corny saying it - love. And what better icons for love than the usual blood-red roses and sparkling stones for engagements. Which brings me to my brief blabber about DIAMONDS.
=================
Diamonds are being manufactured now. It’s surely published somewhere in the internet, but I read a bit of it in Newsweek, on it’s Valentine’s Day cover “Fake Reals”. Heat and pressure after all, can now almost be mimicked in a controlled environment (there are 2 ways to do it, one is in a ceramic container, then it comes out as a diamond sheet, and the rocks are carved from it; the other way I can’t rememeber…) so why not mimic the way diamonds are born? So simple… and yet, still unbelievable. Imagine the price of these rocks dropping like anvils from the sky? That’d be eternal damnation to the big miners like De Beers.
The fake-but-real rocks pass the hardness (scratch) test, being a 10 (meaning only other diamonds can scratch them) , though they still lack the natural cut of the crystal, but the clarity they say in Newsweek is good. Though they have yet to find out how to manufacture those diamonds which are colored…
