I found this adorable quiz from Lyra’s blog. I sorely love The Little Prince! Ironically, I have no copy of this book.

I love to eat! Taste this taste that. But no slimy food for me please. Among my all-time favorites are fresh fish and savory meat barbecues.

Suggested title for a culinary course or book:
Days of brine and sauces.

Hehe. That’s it. Ciao :) I’m off to bed.

‘Narcissistic’ post.

I would say I get along fine with any type of person, since I do not have any prejudice against any. I attribute this to having had almost 5 years of interaction with students, where you develop a sense of fairness and tolerance of varying personalites.

Personally, if I were to be judged for who my friends are, I can see that most of my friends share my passion for life and its many facets. I enjoy being around well-rounded people and good conversationalists. I admire most those people who know what they want and have a clear idea on how they can accomplish their goals.

Yeah, those I consider my friends are like that. But most of these DONT apply to me :P (can’t believe I dropped “don’t” earlier, ack :P)

Passing the time on a Sunday.

First off, I send out greetings to Paul and Des, on the baptism of their firstborn.
*Sends out more happy thoughts and best wishes for Paul Jr.*

To pass the time sitting down in the house, I watched “In Good Company”, and am loving Topher Grace more. Not many might like him, but since ‘That 70’s Show’ and his cameo in Ocean’s Eleven as himself, this guy has that boyish idiotic aura that works on me. (I used to think I’d marry a guy like that, ever since I saw the Revenge of the Nerds and Back to the Future. Feelin’ sorry for the cute nerds.) Dennis Quaid looks so much older now, but he’s still got that ‘Innerspace’-'Dragonheart’ charm and chivalry going on. Simply love him. Which reminds me, I still don’t have a copy of ‘Frequency’…

Morning came and it was a beautiful day today. I did my best to help out around the house as my tummy would allow. I noticed that I’m still bloating on the lower abdomen.

On a happier note, Ajay’s back from vacay this afternoon. :)

The Pilgrimage: The Breathing Exercise

Expel all the air from your lungs, emptying them as much as you can. Then, inhale slowly as you raise your arms as high as possible. As you inhale, concentrate on allowing love, peace and harmony with the universe to enter your body.

Hold the air you have taken in and keep your arms raised for as long as you can, enjoying the harmony between your inner sensations and the outer world. When you reach your limit, exhale all of the air rapidly, as you say the word “RAM”.

Repeat this process for five minutes each time you do this exercise.

*RAM - Rigor, regnum; Adoration, agnus; Mercy, mundi

Passing the time on a Saturday.

I spent the afternoon watching 2 movies I haven’t seen yet. I have to emphasize that I have NOT seen them yet, ‘coz I have a slothy habit of rewatching and rewatching a favorite. Anyway for today I saw a couple of movies: The Recruit(2003), and a recent but relatively unknown one, The Snow Walker(2004).

Al Pacino and Colin Farrell stars with Bridget Moynahan in The Recruit, a movie involving the CIA, its recuitment ins and outs, with the ususal ingredients of an action thriller: betrayal, mystery, deception. It was pretty predictable, despite the folio “Nothing is what it seems”. It was everything that it seemed to me. I wasn’t a lot cranky about watching it since I had fun watching Farrell traipse about in the action and sexy scenes :P

The Snow Walker stars undeniably unknown actors, save for a supporting oldie (James Cromwell I think it was?). The story involves a girl Eskimo and a local guy from the Canadian and Alaskan borders; their paths cross and a ‘Dances With Wolves meets Castaway‘ plot begins. Not a bad film, but I wouldn’t watch it over again.

If it weren’t for movies and books, body pain would really bum me hard at home. Being immobile for the greater part of my day prompts me to find stuff to do with my hands. A whileback it was embroidery, now usually it’s just holding up a book to read. Today, I’ve taken a break from reading and did a lot of acetate wrapping. Books, I mean. And a couple of gift-wrapping for some guys.

Yawning yet typing: the 5th mountain.

I hate to speak badly of whom I’ve recently praised. I do still love Paolo Coelho and his work, only that ‘The Fifth Mountain’ wasn’t much of a fun read towards the end. I have to say the greater part of the book was very entertaining. Well, when any good plot wraps up, it really sucks. Though I have to say that the last 20-ish pages were… irritating. Similar to the feeling you get when you hear a joke, you don’t get it, then someone explains the punchline for you. Then you think ‘Oh yeah that IS funny’, but you can’t really laugh much at it anymore because the moment had passed, and you say ‘Wait a minute… I’ve heard that somewhere else before!’

So in short. This book ranks last among all Coelho’s works in my list. I guess I’m not too happy about the character being based on a predetermined Biblical figure whose destiny is expected in this version of a story.

Next book: The Te of Piglet. No idea yet what the book is about. But it is after all a sequel to Benjamin Hoff’s The Tao of Pooh. It was a book that transformed A. A. Milne’s creation from a mere children’s storybook cartoon into an analog of the Taoists beliefs and ways in life.

I finished reading the Tao of Pooh early this year, and am very pleased with it. It brings a fresh perspective on the ideals of Taoism, and is very helpful in understanding its differences with other disciplines as Confucianism and Buddhism. A favorite portion of it that I can recall brings a clear picture of these differences. It speaks of a painting entitled ‘The Vinegar Tasters’ which showed a picture of three men, ‘Buddha’ (uhm… or some person representing Buddha), ‘Confucius’ and ‘Lao-tse’, each with a different facial expression after tasting the vinegar. Buddha and Confucius had bitter and sour faces, whilst Lao-tse was smiling. That was Taoist way of looking at life.

The Pilgrimage: The Buried Alive Exercise

Posted by Administrator on April 8th, 2005.

Lie down on the floor and relax. Cross your arms over your chest in the posture of death.

Imagine all of the details of your burial, as if it were to be carried out tomorrow, the only difference being that you are being buried alive. As the situation develops in your mind— the chapel, the procession to the cemetery, the lowering of the casket, the worms in your grave— you begin tensing all of your muscles more and more in a desperate attempt to escape. But you cannot do so. Keep trying until you cannot stand it any longer, and then, using a movement that involves your entire body, throw aside the confines of the coffin, breathe deepy, and find yourself free. This movement will have a greater effect if you scream at the same time; it should be a scream that emanates frmo the depths of your body.

Googly eyes and achy legs.

Ajay must be sleeping soundly now. He flies off on a company leisure trip (oxymoronic!) early tomorrow.

Alf lent me a copy of ‘Eurotrip’. Going to watch it over the weekend. Wonder if it’s any good. I popped the Incredibles DVD a few minutes ago and I’m gonna be watching that ’til later. Thought I’d just drop by here for a moment. Looking forward to more time for rest.

I’m not feeling all too well tonight. I’ve got a prickly sensation near my surgical wound that’s been bothering me since last week. I was afraid it would get worse the other day when we walked down 4*18 flights of stairs… only today is the pain really starting to kick in. It has emanated from the legs, which I didn’t (and still don’t) mind so much, and has now spread to my lower abdomen.

I had been posting several excerpts from ‘The Pilgrimage’, though I’ve finished reading it for the other day(count 4 for this year). Coelho recounts in this book his journey along the ‘Road to Santiago’, an ancient pilgrimage that is closely tied with the Knights Templar history. Coelho’s style as he tells his experiences along the road is very Chaucer-ish, a delight to read! A lot of ideas are difficult to appreciate if you are a skeptic when it comes to beliefs which drive them to be pilgrims.

Now I’m working on ‘The Fifth Mountain’, started yesterday morning and I’m about 3 quarters into the pages. Here, Coelho writes about the Israelite Elijah. I realize how different my recognition is of the prophet from this story. It could of course, only had been my own inattentiveness to such detail that must have been evident all along to a perceptive mind of a real creative genius.

I’ll be grabbing a bit of shut-eye soon as I can, though as of now sleep evades me. Too many things to wonder about. :)
